Believe it or not, this is my first wood carving.
Painting this piece was really fun. It took two weeks. I painted shadows in the ribbons. I used very small brushes and an X-acto knife to push the paint around.

This bas-relief was primarily carved with a dremel. The wood is southern yellow pine. This wood is not a great carving wood. I didn't know.
I laminated three pieces of wood together for a starting size of 48 inches wide, 22 inches high, 3 inches thick. Before painting, I bleached the wood.
